Epic Helps Fght Terrorism

WATERPROOF CAMERA HOUSING HELPS FIGHT TERRORISM

A local Orange County Action Sports company’s products help the Army collect intelligence on terrorist in Afghanistan.

(Orange County, CA)- In the mountains of Afghanistan dust and sand storms were destroying the surveillance equipment of the U.S. Army’s 116th Infantry. The unlikely solution came when Corporal Clifford Kevin received an issue of Surfer Magazine and saw an advertisement for Epic Camera Housings.

Corporal Clifford wasted no time in writing a letter directly to Epic regarding their situation. “The dust is so bad here that it has demolished our electronic boards and our gear inside. We lost the intelligence we had gathered,” wrote Corporal Clifford. “Once I saw the Epic Camera Housing I thought, if they are water proof they must be dust and sand proof too!”

The 116th Infantry is patrolling the front lines in Ghazni, Afghanistan. It is their duty to route out and round up any terrorist they find. This job is made even more difficult by the frequent dust storms, and high volumes of dust that is kicked up from the humvees.

When Epic Camera Housings received the handwritten letter from the frontlines of Afghanistan they were instantly moved to action. “Reading what those brave soldiers were going through was very sobering, and we were proud that we could contribute in some way,” said David Johnson, Epic’s Public Relations director. “The ultimate reward for us was when we received a letter of gratitude along with photos of the troops with our Epic Elite™ Camera Housing."

Epic Camera Housings was formed by a couple of water sports enthusiasts who wanted to videotape their adventures. Much to their surprise they found that standard camera housings were designed for scuba diving. Scuba housings are bulky, heavy, expensive, camera specific, and not suitable for filming in heavy surf or other surface conditions. After researching the needs of the average water sports enthusiasts, they developed a patent pending system that makes it possible for one housing to be compatible with over 500 different video cameras.
